When I think back to my early years and how much T.V. influenced me, from Batman and Robin to the Lone Ranger and even
Star Trek. All the impressions made upon my little mind. I think of that same thing happening to my children and what is influencing
their minds. I have to think back to the simple and lesson teaching shows of Mister Rogers. When you would go aboard that train
into the tunnel and come out into King Fridays kingdom. To seeing the consistancy of Mister Rogers.
I have just got finished with a book by Amy Hollingsworth about her good friend Fred Rogers ( Known to us as Mr. Rogers). To
see that he was in real life as he was in the neighborhood is so comforting. He himself saw this not true in one of his child hood stars
into which the star was noted for chasing off children in anger from his porch. This made an impact on Fred Rogers who believed
in being authentic and real. And not only being on TV but a Ordained Minister his character meant everything. What a man of simplicity
and grace. He truly showed all people no matter a persons stature or position in life respect was due him or her because the creator
had made them. He loved his Savior and people thus fulfilling the full law as Jesus had said.
Today I see kids TV and the lack of character and the teaching aspect that is missing. For us who visited the neighborhood as kids
we can see how much he really cared for his viewers and those in the neighborhood. He preached and did not really preach while he was
doing it. He did what St, Francis of Assisi stated, Preach the gospel at all times, and if necessary use words. His life was a constant gospel,
again showing that how he was in life was how he was in the neighborhood.
So many testimonies from people who were struggling in life and somehow came across his show for thirty minutes, twice a day and was
able to come out of the situation.Man how God used Fred Rogers because he made himself available through that show to be used. And
he can use us as we offer what we have for His use if we will. Since Fred listened to the Holy Spirit about the shows content God used
the Neighborhood to change lives.
Now some of you are thinking, ah Mister Rogers Neighborhood, thats for kids. Well I am 46 and I still think back to where in the neighborhood
things were right and correct with the world. I think of that song he sang, Its a wonderful day in the Neighborhood!!! How we could use such a
place to go to where people are treated as they should be, allowing God to bring them to Himself and heal and restore. What a awesome read.
In Christ;
