    Why?

    What, exactly, is our vision?

    Blessings to all...

The Philosopher Alfred North Whitehead: "Life is an offensive against the repetitious mechanization of the universe." The vision should lie somewhere between those who think and make thoughts their aim and those who dream only to be mastered by their dreams. I recently made some comments about Dr. West and his Christian Prophetic Pragmatism. That could be something that we could make use of in formulating the right vision for our times.

Marvin — Good thoughts — can you expound on them for us?

I personally think about all of man laboring toward a place of rest — where there is no more death. But, first we must believe the following "...and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away."—Rev 21:4

I believe this can be done — starting right here.

Metaphorically: a place of rest is "...the heavenly blessedness in which God dwells, and of which he has promised to make persevering believers in Christ partakers after the toils and trials of life on earth are ended."—Thayer

Lightwait: The apostle Paul made some comments about some things that could only be perceived through a glass darkly, but from my perspective, I believe that there are some things that are transparent as well as the things that are beyond the horizon. I am probably getting off the topic with this, but Kierkegaard talked about a human being as being a synthesis of opposite pairs: Finitude-Infinitude, Necessity-Possibility, and The Temporal-The Eternal. He talked about the difference between one dimensional persons and two dimensional persons. This coincides with the distinction that Paul made between the natural person and the spiritual person. He pointed out that the spiritual person can understand the natural person, but that the natural person cannot understand the spiritual person. If this is correct then at the very least, we should strive to be two dimensional persons who live two dimensional live, rather than one dimensional persons living one dimensional lives. The modernist tendencies of our time have the affect of creating DE-personalized individuals rather integral or two dimensional persons and is something that should be understood and resisted. But this statement or Kierkegaard's philosophy should not be taken as "The golden egg" or simplistic answer that some people seem to be looking for.

A human being should be thought of an individual-person rather than as a de-personalized individual. The individual aspect of the human being is commonality with others, but the person aspect is taken to be the uniqueness factor or the spiritual factor.

I think a vision is somewhat like this: In my youth I wanted a particular automobile. I did not want to make payments because it would cost more. I cut out all/most of my play and put all of my weekly earnings in a jar. Soon, I was able to pay cash for the car. My vision came into existence.

I believe the Biblical vision. I see it. I will continually work toward that place — a place where there is no death — physically and Spiritually.

I am here to learn what others think regarding the Kingdom of God on this earth so that I might be able to give it to others freely.

I think that the right vision would be grounded in ontological interest or some ultimate principles and that it should strike the right balance between self-interest and social interest.

What should we see? The Kingdom is within us. What should we see? We must be born again to see the Kingdom of God — What should we see?
