It does sound like a lot of the rants that have been posted here over the years!
This was really interesting, though:
"Anyone who does just a little digging on Bethke's YouTube channel or on Google will quickly learn that this young poet is a conservative Christian and member of the Mars Hill Church led by controversial pastor Mark Driscoll,” writes Patheos blogger Brian Kirk, a Missouri-based pastor. “All this seems to me an odd résumé for one who lambastes organized religion.”
Not to hijack the thread but it makes me wonder at what point does being a member of a certain church (or group in general) mean general-you should be held socially accountable for everything they espouse?
I'm a feminist...but there are things other feminists have done or said that I disagree with 100%.
I'm an american...but, once again, there are many things other americans have done as representatives of the US that are in direct opposition to my ethical code.
Heck, I even strongly disagree with many of the policies the mayor of my city is trying to bring forth! :D
One of the things I've come to learn as a pastor is that the congregation I pastor...well I think they agree with me on 60% of what I believe at any given time, over a vast number of different beliefs.
I find that people are members of a church for a lot more reasons than the pastor, though I believe in some cases, the pastor ranks highly on why they are there, but I would guess that theology ranks rather low.
Nothing about what that guy says in the video strikes me as unusual, within the evangelical movement--am I the only one who grew up hearing it? "Religion" was a bad word in the churches I grew up in.
