    This is unfortunately, the bitter fruit of the "church is a building" mindset, which many churches are recanting too late. Its stepsister, the "church that doubles as a community center" is equally misleading and destructive.

    Coming from Foursquare Denom. They no longer allow churches to buy parsonages. Foursquare is also heavily promoting the Simple Church or Organic. The consideration is that it is too expensive to buy buildings and in some places like Manhattan were exactly are you going to build?

    What really got me here in Dallas was churches building large facilities in the midst of the recession "on faith". Faith in what? That the property isn't foreclosed on within 2 years?

    I agree, I think with their tax status as a non-profit that churches should focus on some sort of revenue generating endeavors for the rest of the week. Like a restaurant or some sort of good will shopping center or something, or private school (best choice).
